Ontario iGaming Tops Record for the Month of October

Ontario Online Casinos Drive iGaming Growth with $6.5 Billion Wagered in October

New data from iGaming Ontario reveals that online gamblers in Ontario wagered over CAD 9.2 billion (approximately $6.5 billion USD) on licensed gaming sites in October 2025. This impressive figure marks continued strong growth throughout the year, pushing the market to new all-time highs.

Record-Breaking Betting Volume and Active Users

October’s betting volume jumped significantly from September’s previous record, showing a clear upward trend compared to October 2024. Industry officials attribute this surge to a growing user base, with nearly 1.3 million active player accounts registered—the highest ever recorded in Ontario’s iGaming history. Operators further celebrated record revenues, generating around CAD 367.7 million ($261.5 million USD) in unadjusted revenue, representing a notable increase year-over-year.

Online Casinos Remain Ontario’s Leading iGaming Segment

Online casino games dominated the iGaming market, accounting for roughly 85% of all wagers placed. Total bets on slots, table games, and live dealer experiences soared to CAD 7.9 billion ($5.6 billion USD). Correspondingly, casino operators reported profits exceeding CAD 300 million ($213.3 million USD) in October alone. Experts highlight that online casino gaming continues to be the cornerstone of Ontario’s rapidly expanding iGaming sector, showing no signs of slowing down.

Sports Betting Experiences Growth Despite Local Team Support

Sports wagering also saw substantial activity throughout October. The high-profile World Series appearance by the Toronto Blue Jays, alongside the NHL and NBA seasons kicking off, created one of the busiest sports calendars in recent years. These factors drove total sports bets to surpass CAD 1.2 billion ($853.5 million USD), setting another monthly record. However, sportsbooks noted that the volume spike did not fully translate into increased profits. Heavy betting on the Blue Jays’ playoff run affected margins, with sportsbooks earning CAD 58 million ($41.3 million USD) in revenue—an improvement over September’s dip but below the peak results seen earlier in 2025.

Poker Market Poised for Expansion Following Court Ruling

Poker wagering remained a smaller share of Ontario’s online gambling market, with stakes totaling about CAD 131 million ($93.2 million USD) and operators earning CAD 5.6 million ($4 million USD) in profits. A recent Ontario Court of Appeal decision now allows the province to collaborate on international player pools. This ruling paves the way for poker and daily fantasy sports players to compete globally, provided safety requirements are met. Industry insiders welcome this development, seeing it as a crucial step toward revitalizing poker’s presence in Ontario’s once isolated market.

Ontario iGaming Market Shows Continued Evolution

With around 50 operators active during October (now slightly reduced to 48 after recent exits), Ontario’s online gambling market is rapidly evolving as it approaches its fourth year. Experts anticipate that expanding player networks, growing customer engagement, and the robust dominance of online casino games will continue to drive the province’s iGaming revenue and popularity in the coming months.
